Description & Details:  Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Laboratory of Dr. Yogesh Kulathu to study the mechanisms by which deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) regulate ubiquitin signalling.  In a recent exciting breakthrough, the Kulathu Lab has discovered a new family of deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) with specialized roles in regulating protein degradation signals [Rehman et al. Molecular Cell (2016)]. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to undertake research aimed at understanding the mechanism and cellular functions of these newly discovered enzymes.

The Kulathu lab uses a multidisciplinary approach in their research and employ techniques ranging from X-ray crystallography and biophysics, to proteomics and cell biology. Some of the aims of our new projects in this area include:

– Understanding how MINDY DUBs regulate protein degradation and proteostasis
– Investigating function using yeast genetics and reconstitution systems
– Identifying substrates and elucidating substrate recognition mechanisms
– Use of CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing in cell lines, yeast genetics and mouse models to study function

Candidates with interests in one or more of the following areas: ubiquitylation, protein homeostasis, neurodegeneration and signal transduction mechanisms regulated by posttranslational modifications, will be suited. The candidate should have a strong background and experience in biochemistry. It is expected that the candidate will develop and apply a broad range of techniques to pursue the research objectives. The candidate will benefit from the cutting edge facilities in biochemistry, cell biology, drug discovery, and proteomics available within the School of Life Sciences.
