Description & Details: Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position funded by Wellcome Trust to study molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in human obesity in the group of Professor Sadaf Farooqi. You will work in an internationally recognised collaborative, multidisciplinary team whose goal is to understand the genetic, molecular and physiological basis of human obesity (Wheeler et al. Nature Genetics 2013; Pearce et al. Cell 2013; www.goos.org.uk ). Through a number of approaches, we have identified several novel disease associated genes and now need to apply standard molecular biology, biochemistry and cell imaging techniques to characterize the in vitro consequences of human mutations on these proteins. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, experienced post-doctoral scientist with a strong publication record. You should have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology or closely related field and postdoctoral experience in one or more of the following techniques: mammalian cell biology, biological imaging technologies, molecular biology and biochemistry applied to the study of GPCRs, transcription factors or prohormone convertases. You will be expected to pursue one or more projects and to learn and/or develop new high throughput methodologies when necessary or useful. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills as you will develop new external collaborations with partners in the NHS, Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industry. |
