Description & Details:  Aarhus University invites applications for two postdoc positions on the functional and structural properties of linking domains in proteins based at iNANO and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. The positions are initially for one year with the possibility of extension. The starting date is flexible, but ideally as soon as possible.

Signalling molecules in biology are often tethered together in large macromolecular complexes including protein receptors and downstream kinases. The physical association of the proteins control signalling pathways by creating a local high concentration of protein partners. Despite of its importance in biology, little is known about effective concentrations in tethered complexes. This project will address this problem via a two pronged approach:

1) Development of an assay for measuring effective concentrations in multidomain proteins and supra-molecular complexes. Application of these methods to deduce the physico-chemical principles determining effective concentrations of macromolecules linked by flexible linkers.
2) Structural characterization of A kinase anchoring proteins (AKAP) by NMR spectroscopy and single-molecule FRET, to determine how the structural propensities of these proteins affect effective concentrations of linked enzymes and substrates
