Description & Details: The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy). The research group of Matthias Wilmanns has a long-standing record in structural biology on research themes that are of medical relevance. Most of our projects require the combined use of different structural biology methods by “hybrid” approaches, complemented by functional experiments. Project Outline: We aim to mechanistically investigate proteins that are key regulators and markers in cancer metastasis, in collaboration with the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. The principle goal of this project is to elucidate the structures of those proteins, in the presence of top scoring interaction partners, followed by a structure-based functional characterization. Our data will feed into translational research to target the protein by anti-tumor compounds. |
