Description & Details:  The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.

A post-doctoral position is available within the scientific team “Neurodegeneration & Neuroprotection in Parkinson’s Disease” led by Donato Di Monte in Bonn. The research focus of this team is on molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and alpha-synuclein pathology in Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. For this position, research emphasis will be on mechanisms such as neuron-to-neuron propagation of alpha-synuclein, protein aggregation, altered protein homeostasis, neuroinflammation and mitochondrial damage. Studies will be conducted in a variety of experimental models (e.g., stereotactic brain injections of viral vectors), using histochemical and molecular biology approaches (e.g., optogenetics).

Candidates (f/m) with a PhD in biological sciences are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in neuroscience research, neuropathology/histology and in vivo models of neurodegenerative diseases are highly desirable. Applicants should be fluent in English and possess good communication and team-working skills.
