Description & Details:  The Biotechnology Centre of Oslo is an affiliation of the University of Oslo. The institute offers young talented researchers a thriving and vibrant scientific environment within the fields of experimental and clinical immunology, cancer research, cell biology and signal transduction. The researchers are given the opportunity to both develop their careers and pursue their curiosities.

The Lopez-Aviles group is based at the Biotechnology Centre of Oslo. Our lab is interested in understanding the role of protein phosphatases in the events leading to cell division and also during cell differentiation. We use as model organism the fission yeastSchizosaccharomyces pombe. For our studies we combine classical yeast genetics and molecular biology techniques with high throughput technologies.

We are seeking:

The candidate will participate in a project investigating the regulation of translation in response to nutrient availability and the implications of phosphatase activity to this process. This project will involve the analysis of the genetic interactions between phosphatase mutants and known regulators of translation, with special focus in the TORC1 and TORC2 complexes. Moreover, we aim at generating a reporter system in order to systematically evaluate the rate of protein translation. In addition, this project will encompass the generation of RNA-sequencing and ribosome profiling data in response to different nutritional conditions.

The group has extensive expertise in cell biology, biochemistry, and yeast genetics, and has close collaboration with the Department of Cell Biology at the Institute for Cancer Research and other internationally recognized groups.
