Europe’s agricultural sector faces a range of economic, environmental and social challenges, including more volatile producer prices, unusual weather patterns, upstream and downstream market power along the value chain, increasing dependence on financial institutions, and political risks. The accumulation of these uncertainties lead to concerns about the long-term viability of food production, the sustainability of agricultural systems, and the vitality of rural areas.
