- A PhD and an undergraduate Biology degree or postdoctoral level qualification in Microbiology or Biology from a recognised University
- appropriate laboratory experience skills in algae taxonomy or macro-invertebrates,
- familiarity with using DNA-based techniques and developing and validating methods
